Luxury Renovation FAQs

Q. How long have you been in business?

A. McCreary Homes has been incorporated since May 1988. LJ began building and renovating in Tucson in 1986. Prior to that 1980 to 1986 LJ worked on a building team and for a developer. His mother says he’s always had a knack for putting things together.

Q. How do you handle changes or alterations after the agreement is signed or after construction has begun?

A. When you request a change we will write it down on a change order request form for you to sign. Having something in writing leaves less chance for misinterpretation.

Q. Do changes add very much time to my completion date.

A. Yes. Every change, no matter how small, will add time to the home renovation process. The amount of time will be determined by how many changes you make, how extensive they are, and whether or not they’re on the critical path at the time they’re requested.

Q. I have a friend who sells appliances. Can I provide some of my own material or supplies?

A. Yes. We will include provisions in the agreement to install the items, however, you will be responsible for payment and getting the items delivered. Any warranty issues regarding those items will be the owners’ responsibility. Just let us know beforehand so we can include installation.

Q. How much does it cost to renovate or add on?

A. We build in wide range. $160 / per SF to $350 / per SF for new construction.

It’s a little trickier to use the cost per SF method for a renovation. A lot depends on the existing home and scope of work.

The main 3 components that drive the cost of your renovation are:
The complexity of the structure and how it “fits” with the existing home
The age of or year the existing home was built effects requirements to meet current building codes
The level of finish or ingredients…things you choose to go in your new home

You’ll be the one who decides how much your home renovation costs.

Q. What kind of warranty do you provide?

A. McCreary Homes follows the warranty guidelines set forth by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. A copy of these guidelines is available from the Arizona Registrar of Contractors in Phoenix.

McCreary Homes also follows guidelines set up by the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association “Certified Custom Builder” program. A copy of these guidelines and criteria for acceptance is available from SAHBA or from our office.

Manufacturer warranties apply to those particular items.
