Updated Charm on Tucson’s East Side

Located in the lush mesquite bosque of Tucson’s east side this early 1980’s Santa Fe home needed an up date. The sunken living room, which was popular back in the day, made the room feel much smaller than it actually was. We raised the floor, installed a huge window open the view of the Rincon Mountains and turned the old plaster corner fireplace into a larger “whole wall” masonry fireplace with rugged stone facing and a heavy solid stone mantel. The master bedroom suffered from the same fate of having 2 levels so we also raised that floor and the room seemed to grow twice in size. The master bath was gutted completely, opened up, and custom installed imported slate was installed on the floor and up the walls at the shower and whirlpool tub. A custom alder wood master closet was installed off the bath. The owner, an artist, also added a detached studio with bath so she could paint and store her collection outside of the main home.
